SMAPOL® fibers – SMAPOL® stabilizer – SMAPOL® reinforcement.

SMAPOL® is an innovative fiber additive for mineral and asphalt mixtures in granular form, produced from recycled textile cords recovered in the process of recycling used car tires.

SMA and other discontinuous-grained asphalt mixtures usually contain stabilizing ingredients to provide resistance to delamination, segregation and binder flowability (asphalt + mineral particles with a size of less than 1 mm).

SMAPOL® fibers prevent binder runoff in SMA and other discontinuous-grain asphalt mixtures

Often secondary cellulose fiber from recycled paper processing, such as granulated with asphaltene, is used to stabilize the binder because of its high adsorption capacity.

Compared with cellulose fiber-based stabilizing additives, the SMAPOL® additive provides a more optimal degree of asphalt adsorption, which allows it to be used as a reinforcing ingredient in mineral-asphalt mixtures of all types.

In the worldwide practice of asphalt pavement construction, various natural and chemical fibers are used as additives to asphalt mixtures to improve their strength, deformability and technological properties.

In the production process of SMAPOL®, the multifiber mixture, consisting of synthetic fibers, is optimized for the content of each type of fiber, activated and modified. This results in a product with exceptional functionality and efficiency, including cost-effectiveness based on the level of cost of how to improve the properties of mineral and asphalt mixtures.

SMAPOL® has the lowest carbon footprint among known stabilizing additives and reinforcing fibers for mineral and asphalt mixtures, and at the same time contributes to extending the life of asphalt pavements. Thus, it contributes to lowering the carbon footprint of road pavements over their lifetime.

By using SMAPOL® instead of cellulosic additives, we can count not only on a reduction in direct costs (the cost of SMAPOL® on the Polish market is lower than that of cellulosic additives by 1.6-1.75 times), but also on achieving a measurable annual economic effect by extending the life of road surfaces by about 25-40%

Lower carbon footprint of road surfaces

The level of environmental impact calculated by the Global Warming Potential (GWP, CO2e), reduced to the estimated life of a pavement laid with SMA asphalt mix with SMAPOL® additive is 20-30% lower than for a pavement laid with SMA asphalt mix with cellulose additives.

On a 1 km single carriageway road with two lanes, the use of SMAPOL® instead of cellulose additive will reduce the GWP (CO2e), reduced to 1 year of the estimated life of the asphalt pavement, by 3-5 tons.
