Durable Road Pavements

SMAPOL® additive, thanks to its optimum absorption properties and low swelling of the main ingredient – a synthetic fibre, provides microstructural reinforcement of mineral-asphalt mixtures of all types, which makes it possible to increase their long-term durability during the service life of road pavements.

The deterioration of asphalt pavements takes place in three stages:

Development of invisible microstructural damages;
Formation of microdefects (for example, microcracks or micropores) and the development of intra-structural damages, which can already be assessed experimentally;
Development of macrodefects, which we can see with our own eyes on the road surface in the form of cracks, potholes, aggregate defects, etc.

At the same time, the higher the level of micro-defect accumulation, the greater the likelihood of macro-defects in the asphalt pavement structure as a result of transport loads and climatic factors.

SMAPOL® provides microstructural reinforcement at the micro- and meso-structural level of mineral-asphalt mixtures to increase strength and deformability. At the same time, using SMAPOL® in combination with modified (highly modified) bitumen and rubber-modified bitumen to improve the long-term strength of asphalt pavements provides a significant synergistic effect, including an increase in the reliability and homogeneity of the properties of mixes with Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP), both with and without the use of various types of rejuvenators

The SMAPOL® usage costs provided for to 1 year of road pavement service life extension are minimal compared to other methods of modifying and reinforcing mineral-asphalt mixtures.

SMAPOL® can be used for hot, warm and cold asphalt mixtures, as well as for mineral-cement-emulsion (mineral-emulsion) mixtures and asphalt-cement concretes, for the lower and upper layers of asphalt pavements.

The implementation of the FiberRoadsconcept contributes not only to improving the technical and economic performance of road pavements, but also to reducing the carbon footprint of their construction and operation process during their service life cycle.
